Our Services
Three modes of engagement, each structured for a distinct kind of need.
Sector Reading Engagement
A careful outside reading of a sector or sub-sector on behalf of a client preparing to commit capital, talent, or operational attention. The deliverable is a fifteen-to-twenty page written assessment covering incumbents, constraints, and reasonable expectations for a new entrant.
- Written sector assessment, 15–20 pages
- Incumbent landscape and quiet constraints
- New entrant expectations, clearly stated
- Suitable for new line-of-business decisions
Internal Memorandum Drafting
We draft, on behalf of leadership, a substantive internal memorandum on a matter of consequence — strategy, structure, succession, or a decision the leader wishes to communicate carefully. Work is credited to the principal, not to us.
- Interviews with principal and document review
- Board, partnership, or senior team-ready draft
- Full confidentiality, credited to the leader
- Strategy, structure, or succession matters
Twelve-Month Advisory Arrangement
A continuing relationship for senior leaders who value continuity over a calendar year. Quarterly half-day on-site reviews, monthly remote conversations, and informal availability between scheduled meetings for matters that warrant a dispassionate view.
- Quarterly half-day on-site review
- Monthly one-hour remote conversation
- Informal availability between sessions
- Renewed by mutual agreement annually
Why Bayu Counsel
What distinguishes the counsel we offer from generalist advisory markets.
Considered, not reactive
Our engagements are structured for deliberation. We take the time a question deserves rather than the time a client is comfortable paying for.
Written deliverables
Every engagement produces a document the client can read, share, or revisit. Verbal summaries are never the primary output.
Strict confidentiality
Client matters are held in confidence without exception. We do not reference clients, past or current, in any commercial material.
Senior attention throughout
Work is done by the principal consultants, not delegated to junior staff. Clients deal with the same person from first conversation to final deliverable.
Dispassionate perspective
We have no interest in the outcome of a client's decision beyond the quality of the advice we offer. That independence is what makes the counsel useful.
Malaysia-rooted perspective
Our reading of Malaysian markets, institutional structures, and business culture runs deep. Context that international advisors routinely miss is central to our work.
Is there a decision on your desk that would benefit from an outside reading?
We welcome an initial conversation without obligation. Most engagements begin with a brief exchange to establish whether we are the right fit for the matter at hand.
Common Questions
Matters we are asked about before a first engagement.
How does a first conversation typically begin?
Most clients write a brief note — two or three sentences describing the matter — and we arrange a short call to establish whether our work is suited to it. There is no formal intake process and no obligation attached to the initial conversation.
How long does a sector reading engagement take?
The standard engagement runs four weeks from the date we agree on scope. We do not compress this timeline. The reading requires sufficient time to be thorough, and a rushed assessment would not serve its purpose.
Can I commission a memorandum on a sensitive matter?
Yes. Sensitive matters — succession, structure changes, decisions with internal political dimensions — are precisely where this work is most useful. We hold all details in confidence and the finished document is credited entirely to the principal.
Who is the twelve-month arrangement suited to?
Managing partners, family principals, and senior leaders new into role are the most common clients. The arrangement is also well-suited to founders who want a standing sounding board without the formality of a board advisor relationship.
Do you work outside of Selangor?
Most of our clients are based in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang, though we work with principals across Peninsular Malaysia. On-site sessions in the twelve-month arrangement are conducted at the client's premises, wherever that may be.
Are your fees fixed or negotiable?
The fees published reflect the standard scope of each engagement. Where a matter has a materially different scope — broader, more complex, or with additional deliverables — we discuss the appropriate fee before any work begins.
